Silent was mandated to design a common booth for Wood Arrangement, a regroupment of Japanese wood working companies wanting to promote their respective skills during the international trade faire
Living & Design at INTEX Osaka.

The request from the clients was that the image of “Wood” more than the respective products should catch the eye of the visitor.
Lumber usually used for the construction of traditional japanese houses have been combined with canopy shadows on the walls letting the booth appear natural and warm. The floor was partially covered with wood chips revealing a nice and subtle sent of pine wood.
OSB boxes with light up acrylic tops display present the products with a touch of sharpness.

INFORMATION ー
Traditional Japanese umbrellas, known as “wagasa”, were first introduced during the 6th century. At the peak of their popularity, there used to be more than a dozen wagasa manufacturers producing over 20 million umbrellas per year nationwide.

Hiyoshiya, the only surviving umbrella maker in Kyoto with over 100 years of history teamed up with silent to create “ryoten”, a modern wagasa to match today’s lifestyle. Eco-friendly and high-tech materials have been selected to make “ryoten” a smart and sustainable product with improved durability and new practical features.
The name “ryoten” has been chosen as it means “both” and “weather” in Japanese, since the umbrella can be used for both sunny and rainy weather.

As customers should enjoy a long relationship with “ryoten”, it is designed to outlive conventional umbrellas but can be maintained and repaired should it get damaged, or should a component wear out.

INFORMATION ー
Mrs. Tabata asked silent to create an identity for her home made baked goods and marmalades.

Anzu was chosen for the name, as it means almond in Japanese and its extract is often used for baked goods.
We chose to use the chinese character of the almond and treat it’s outline in a way to give it the beauty of imperfection, found in home made goods. Adding the transliterated name gives a western touch to the brand image.

The mother company’s name, Nissei Kensetsu, contains the meaning “birth of the day”, therefor the solitary request from the client was to introduce “sun” as a word into the new subsidiary company name. We went one step further and intergrated a meaning into the three letters of sun, that would be what was becoming SUN Architect’s slogan: Symbiosis of Urban Nature

The logotype is composed by three elements, giving a vertical solid structure.
