Oliver Franz
Founder | Creative Director
Born in 1979 in Switzerland, Oliver Franz studied furniture craftsmanship before subsequently working in the field for about three years. Desiring to be more involved into the creation process, not only the execution of furniture, he studied industrial design for 4 years in Switzerland and Sweden. Before and after graduation he gained experience working in various design studios in Sweden, San Francisco and Osaka, designing electronic consumer goods and furniture, in addition to space and graphic design. Realizing more and more the importance of the wise use of material, the significance of ecology and the responsibility of the designer, Oliver started his own design atelier in Osaka in 2009. Deeply interested and passionate about crafts and aesthetics, he now strives to combine traditional techniques with modern design to make useful, beautiful and long-lasting, and therefore “greener”, products.

スイス生まれ、職人養成学校で家具を学び、卒業後職人として家具メーカーに勤務。その後スイスとスウェーデンにてインダストリアルデザインを学び、２００４年以降はサンフランシスコ、スウェーデン、大阪のデザインスタジオに勤務し、主に家電デザインに携わる。デザインを通じ、マテリアルの最適な使用、エコロジーの重要性、さらにはデザインの社会における責任というものを強く意識するようになる。２００９年に自らのデザインアトリエを大阪に設立。日本の工芸やそれらの背後にある美意識に強い関心を抱いており、現代の生活に伝統技術を活かすことで、より便利で役に立ち、美しく、それでいて永く使用可能なプロダクト、つまりは「greener products」を作り出す事を目指している。
