KYOTOGRAPHIE 2015 / Maraini / Bamboo Installation

INFORMATION
Exhibition design and bamboo installation for Fosco Maraini’s The Enchantment of the Women of the Sea co-organised by KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival and the Italian Institute of Culture and Consulate General of Italy. In the main room on the second floor of the traditional building, about 400 bamboo ribs have been assembled in the tokonoma alcove and woven into the beams of the building, representing waves of the sea. The visitor could discover photographs of the ama, local women who dove for shellfish on the north coast of the Noto Peninsula, with the feeling of being under the waves alike the ama.
