Tomikoji Bamboo Art
Custom Artwork in Split Bamboo
This unique artwork showcases the craftsmanship of split bamboo, known as hirawari, carefully mounted with gentle curves around the core. At the base, the bamboo parts are securely held together with kumihimo, a string done by a traditional braiding technique. When illuminated, the bamboo casts enchanting shadows onto the floor, creating a mesmerizing interplay of light and darkness. This artwork is prominently displayed in the tokonoma, a traditional alcove, at Tomikoji, a traditional inn in Kyoto.
